Following the recent passing of O.J. Simpson, the notorious Ford Bronco involved in the 1994 police chase is set to be sold with an asking price of $1.5 million, marking a significant moment in the legacy of the highly publicised case.
The white Ford Bronco, known for its involvement in O.J. Simpson’s 1994 televised police chase, is on the market with an asking price of $1.5 million following Simpson’s death. The vehicle, driven by Al Cowlings during the pursuit on California’s 405 freeway, became a symbol of the case that saw Simpson, a former NFL star, accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. The chase was watched by about 95 million viewers, underscoring its wide-reaching impact.
O.J. Simpson, who passed away recently at 76 after a struggle with prostate cancer, was acquitted in the criminal trial but found liable in a civil suit, where he was ordered to pay $33.5 million to the victims’ families, a sum largely unsettled. Following his death, Malcolm LaVergn, executor of Simpson’s estate and his former attorney, publicly vowed to prevent the Goldman family from receiving any funds from the estate, aiming to honor what he saw as Simpson’s wishes.
The Bronco was kept in a garage for over a decade before being displayed at a crime museum in Tennessee from 2016. Now, the impending sale marks a key point in the ongoing legacy of one of the most publicised events of the 20th century. The owners, including Simpson’s former agent, turned down a previous offer of $750,000, indicating the vehicle’s significant increase in value linked to its notoriety.
