On a visit that captivated both staff and students, Prince William arrived unannounced at St Michael’s Church of England High School in Sandwell, West Midlands. The visit on April 25, 2024, followed an invitation from a 12-year-old student, Freddie Hadley, who had previously written to the Prince to inform him about the school’s mental health initiatives, particularly the “Am I Manly Enough?” campaign, which focuses on male mental health.

Prince William had acknowledged Freddie’s efforts on social media, commending the young student for his dedication to mental health awareness. Upon his arrival, William surprised and delighted Freddie and his peers by participating in activities with the students involved in the Matrix Project, which also addresses mental health issues.

Adding a lighter touch to his visit, the Prince shared a “dad joke,” inspired by comedian Jack Whitehall, which was well-received by everyone present. This visit by the Royal highlighted the ongoing efforts to tackle mental health stigma, especially among young men, while providing an unforgettable experience for the students of St Michael’s Church of England High School.
