On May 12, 2024, over 14,000 participants, including former Leeds Rhinos teammates Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Jones-Buchanan, took part in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The event, which began at 9 am for marathon runners and an hour later for half-marathon participants, was organized to support Rob Burrow, who has been diagnosed with MND, and to contribute to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Kevin Sinfield has garnered over £15 million in donations since Burrow was diagnosed in 2019. Despite the warm weather and the logistical challenges on the day, the event unfolded successfully with Rob Burrow meeting participants at the finish line, where one of his daughters presented Sinfield with his medal. Emotional scenes recalled last year’s event, where Sinfield notably assisted Burrow over the finish line.

Sinfield acknowledged the volunteers, runners, and community supporters for their role in the success of the event and hinted at the possibility of future fundraising challenges. Furthermore, Burrow’s wife, Lindsey, also participated in the half-marathon, amplifying the support for the cause.

The marathon not only underscored the strong camaraderie among former teammates but also highlighted the ongoing community support in the fight against motor neurone disease.
