Jeremy Deller, the Turner Prize-winning British artist, is renowned for his innovative public artworks that engage communities and provoke thought. In 2025, he is set to present “The Triumph of Art,” a nationwide performance marking the National Gallery’s bicentenary. This ambitious project will unfold across the UK, culminating in a grand event in London’s Trafalgar Square.

The performance is scheduled to commence on 19 April 2025 in Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland, with “The Triumph of Music.” This will be followed by “Meet the Gods” in Dundee, Scotland, on 24 May; “Rhuo’r Rhamant / Return of Romance” in Llandudno, Wales, on 21 June; and “Hello Sailor” in Plymouth, England, on 5 July. The series will culminate on 26 July with “The Triumph of Art” in Trafalgar Square, London.

Deller’s work often draws from historical events and cultural phenomena to create immersive experiences. For instance, his 2016 project “We’re Here Because We’re Here” involved thousands of participants across Britain, creating a living memorial to the fallen soldiers of the Battle of the Somme.

In addition to “The Triumph of Art,” Deller has been involved in several exhibitions and projects in 2023. From 10 June to 17 September 2023, he presented “Art Is Magic” at Frac Bretagne in Rennes, France. This exhibition showcased a range of works, including “Folk Archive,” a collaboration with Alan Kane that celebrates British vernacular culture through various media.

Deller’s approach to art is characterized by its engagement with the public and its exploration of social and political themes. His works often challenge traditional notions of art and its role in society, inviting audiences to participate and reflect on contemporary issues.
