Authorities in Idaho have successfully apprehended white supremacist Skylar Meade and accomplice Nicholas Umphenour following their violent escape from custody, which left three correctional officers injured and is linked to two homicides.
In a significant development in Idaho, authorities captured white supremacist Skylar Meade and his accomplice Nicholas Umphenour following their escape from custody and involvement in a violent hospital ambush. The incident, which left three correctional officers injured, occurred while Meade was being transported from a Boise hospital, culminating in a dramatic recapture in Twin Falls.
Meade, 31, serving a 20-year sentence for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, managed to flee the hospital after Umphenour, who faced charges for aggravated battery and aiding an escapee, opened fire on the officers. The duo temporarily evaded capture by fleeing in a grey sedan but were later apprehended without incident near Leland, Idaho.
The escape attempt drew further attention due to its possible link to two homicides, with police discovering prison shackles at one of the crime scenes. Both Meade and Umphenour, identified as members of the Aryan Knights prison gang, are under investigation for their potential involvement in these deaths.
The Idaho Department of Correction is now revising its inmate transport policies to prevent similar security breaches. The incident highlighted the risks posed by organized criminal activity within prisons, especially involving gangs like the Aryan Knights, known for perpetuating white supremacist ideologies.
While three correctional officers were injured during the escape attempt, they are reportedly in stable condition and on the road to recovery. The ongoing investigation aims to bring justice for the victims of this ordeal and scrutinize the prison gang’s influence to safeguard against future incidents.
