Aqib Khan, a teacher at Harborne Academy in Birmingham, has been indefinitely prohibited from teaching following a series of unprofessional and discriminatory remarks. The Teaching Regulation Agency’s panel ruled that Khan’s actions, including derogatory comments about westernized girls, inappropriate advice to students, and a failure to uphold professional standards, contravened the fundamental British values of individual liberty and mutual respect. The investigation revealed that Khan made various unacceptable comments, such as suggesting a higher disability risk in babies born to women over 30 and rejecting the professionalism of a female doctor based on her salary. Additionally, Khan displayed a topless picture of himself to a pupil in a Microsoft Teams group chat, further evidencing his failure to maintain professional boundaries. The panel, led by chair Marc Cavey, concluded that Khan’s conduct significantly detracted from the teaching profession’s reputation, resulting in his indefinite ban from teaching in England, with the provision to appeal the decision.
