A Boeing 737 operated by Transair skidded off the runway at Blaise Diagne International Airport near Dakar, Senegal, resulting in 10 injuries, four of which were serious. The incident happened as the plane was preparing to take off for Bamako with 79 passengers, two pilots, and four cabin crew members onboard. Following the crash, dramatic images circulated showing the plane covered with fire-suppressing foam. The injured are currently receiving treatment, and other passengers have been accommodated in a hotel.

This incident at Dakar’s main airport has caused temporary suspension of flights, coming amidst heightened scrutiny of Boeing aircraft. Notably, this follows an event where a FedEx-operated Boeing 767 cargo plane had to emergency land at Istanbul Airport due to a landing gear failure, thankfully without casualties. The FedEx aircraft, coming from Paris, managed to land safely despite the malfunction, which caused sparks and smoke as it skidded on the runway.

These incidents form part of a series of troubling events involving Boeing-manufactured aircraft, including a Lufthansa Airlines plane that experienced problems on a Los Angeles runway and another aircraft that had a window torn off. Furthermore, the US Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into falsified inspection records at a Boeing plant in South Carolina, as concerns over aviation safety persist.
