In an incident involving a bus carrying 60 British schoolchildren from Ysgol Llanhari in Wales, a potential tragedy was averted in Germany. The bus, which was transporting the children, aged 14 to 17, on a ski trip, narrowly escaped a serious accident when a lorry veered into its path. The incident occurred early on a Tuesday morning and was reportedly caused by the lorry driver being distracted by his satellite navigation device, leading him to cross into oncoming traffic.

The crash resulted in minor injuries to the bus driver, but, fortunately, none of the children or other occupants, comprising a total of 73 individuals including teachers and caregivers, were harmed. Following the incident, the schoolchildren were accommodated in a gym where they received support and food from the local fire department as they awaited alternative transportation to continue their ski holiday.

The police have pointed to the lorry driver’s distraction as the suspected cause of the collision, highlighting concerns over road safety, especially in the context of school trips and the transport of young passengers.
