Concerns have been raised for a hillwalker after the discovery of abandoned clothing and equipment on a mountain on the Isle of Skye. The Skye Mountain Rescue Team, comprising 35 volunteers, made the finding on Tuesday, March 18, in the vicinity of a popular hiking trail.

The items were located approximately one kilometre south of the Quiraing car park, along the slope ascending to Bioda Buidhe. The abandoned belongings included a grey and green sleeping bag, bent walking poles, and a large bin liner, which were found strewn across a grassy slope. Additional items identified in the area included black trousers, a dark grey North Face hoodie, red socks, black shorts, boxers, and a pair of yellow waterproof trousers.

The hiking trail where the items were found is well-known for its challenging terrain, particularly noted for steep sections where walkers are advised to gauge their abilities. In light of the situation, the Skye Mountain Rescue Team issued an appeal on Tuesday evening, stating, “Skye MRT is seeking any information regarding an abandoned sleeping bag and various personal items, including a set of clothes, found today approximately 1km south of the Quiraing car park, on the slope leading up to Bioda Buidhe. If you have any information, please get in touch or call Police Scotland on 101.”

The team has reached out to the public for assistance, highlighting the urgency of the case considering the potential implications for the missing individual. In addition, Police Scotland has been contacted for further comments regarding the situation.

This incident follows a recent case involving a missing individual in the Highlands. Christopher Davis, 27, was reported missing after being last seen on March 12 in his home village of Avoch. He was later found safe after it was believed he may have been out camping. Authorities expressed gratitude for the community’s support in searching for him.

Another case was recorded earlier this year involving Rasa Kilikeviciute, a 33-year-old hillwalker who went missing on the Cape Wrath trail. She was reported missing on January 27 and was subsequently located safe three days later.
