Christina Robinson, a 30-year-old woman, has been convicted by Newcastle Crown Court of murdering her three-year-old son, Dwelaniyah, in Durham. The case revealed a distressing pattern of abuse that led to the child’s death due to fatal brain injuries. Robinson subjected her son to severe physical abuse, including beating him with a cane and immersing him in scalding water, which did not receive the necessary medical attention. Her defense included claims of adherence to the teachings of the Black Hebrew Israelites movement, interpreting Biblical scripture as justification for her use of physical discipline.

Throughout the trial, the prosecution presented evidence of the “sadistic cruelty” Robinson inflicted on Dwelaniyah, escalating in severity in the weeks preceding his death. Although Robinson denied causing the fatal injuries and defended her actions based on religious beliefs, the jury found her guilty of murder and four additional charges of child cruelty. The court awaits her sentencing, scheduled for May 24, as the legal process concludes.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Turner, involved in the investigation, commended the jury for their verdict, expressing hope that justice for Dwelaniyah has been served. The case has deeply impacted all those involved, highlighting the severe consequences of parental cruelty and neglect.
