The incident occurred on a Wednesday, with Essex Police reporting that Gilbey, who worked as a self-employed electrician, fell approximately 80 feet through a skylight onto concrete inside the warehouse, known as EGL Homecare. Despite warnings from others about working without a harness, Gilbey, according to reports, chose to climb the warehouse, leading to the fatal accident.
Following the incident, Essex Police arrested a man in his forties on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter but later released him under investigation. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has joined the police in conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Gilbey’s death.
