A planned attack at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania was thwarted when the attacker’s gun malfunctioned during a live-streamed sermon, leading to a grateful pastor and a heroic congregant.
On a recent Sunday at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, a disturbing incident occurred during a sermon when Bernard J. Polite, 26, attempted to shoot Pastor Glenn Germany. According to reports, Polite approached Pastor Germany, armed and, according to the pastor, claimed he was acting on instructions from God. However, the gun malfunctioned, and Polite was quickly subdued by a congregant, preventing the shooting.
During the event, which was captured on the church’s live stream, the pastor managed to wrestle the firearm away from Polite, who had allegedly smiled before attempting to fire his weapon. According to Pastor Germany, Polite confessed to hearing voices and seemed to believe he was following divine commands. The pastor, who attributed the prevention of the shooting to divine intervention, expressed his gratitude for being unharmed and praised the congregant who tackled Polite, calling him a hero.
Police have charged Bernard Polite with aggravated assault and attempted homicide. He reportedly wandered to the church after hearing its music and told authorities that he wanted to shoot the pastor and then be arrested to ‘clear his mind.’ Polite is currently held without bail and awaits further court proceedings.
In addition to the attempted shooting, authorities are investigating Polite’s connection to a nearby shooting victim found in a home close to the church, aiming to clarify the sequence of events leading to the attempted attack at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church. The community and churchgoers are now awaiting more information as the investigation continues.
