In recent operations in the Caribbean, the Royal Navy’s HMS Trent, collaborating with the US Coast Guard, has seized nearly £17 million worth of drugs, including 200kg of cocaine among other narcotics. These operations, part of ongoing efforts since late 2023 to combat drug trafficking, have taken place under the guidance of Defence Secretary Grant Shapps who has praised the commitment of those involved in these successful drug interceptions.

The combined efforts of British sailors, Royal Marines, and the US Coast Guard aboard HMS Trent were crucial in intercepting smuggling speedboats, seizing the drugs, and detaining the involved crew members. These operations demonstrate the effectiveness of international cooperation in curbing illegal drug trafficking activities in the Caribbean.

To date, since its deployment to the Caribbean, HMS Trent has seized a total of £307 million worth of illegal drugs, underscoring the significant impact of its mission in the region. Commanding Officer Tim Langford lauded the crew’s dedication and professionalism, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts between different naval forces in achieving these outcomes.

Besides its primary role in countering drug trafficking, HMS Trent also participates in a broader scope of activities in the region, including piracy prevention, humanitarian aid, and support in search and rescue missions. These operations are part of the Royal Navy’s broader commitment to maintaining security and stability in the Caribbean amidst various challenges, including territorial disputes.
