An investigation has been launched following a disturbing altercation involving players of Minehead AFC and supporters after a recent match. The incident took place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Minehead’s home ground in Somerset County Football League, where the team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Stockwood Green, conceding a late goal.

Footage of the event, which has gained significant traction on social media, shows clashes between the supporters and two players from the Minehead squad. As the team attempted to return to their dressing room, they were confronted by a group of fans, leading to a chaotic scene. One player appeared to be especially targeted during the confrontation before managing to reach the safety of the dressing room. The video captures attempted punches and shoves, with supporters seeming to try and force their way into the players’ area after the incident escalated.

In response to the unfolding situation, Minehead AFC issued a statement via their official Facebook page. The club expressed their disappointment regarding the altercation, acknowledging that they are “fully aware” of the events that took place. They confirmed that an internal investigation has commenced and that relevant authorities have been notified. The club noted, “As this is an active investigation, no further comments will be made from us during this time.”

Prior to the club’s statement, a Facebook user reported the incident to authorities, citing their concern about the violence exhibited in the video. They mentioned, “Just seen the video of the Minehead fans piling in and thumping their own players in the head. Sent the video to the police.”

The Avon and Somerset Police have acknowledged the situation but have refrained from providing additional details, stating they are aware of the incident and emphasising their current limitations on commenting further.

This altercation marks a troubling moment in grassroots football, particularly as it follows another recent disturbing incident involving parents and players in an under-10s match in Kent, where a brawl erupted among adults, impacting children who were present. In that event, which became chaotic, footage showed multiple men clashing on the pitch, with one child seemingly caught in the turmoil. Parents expressed their disapproval over adults engaging in such violent behaviour amidst a youth sporting event, reflecting growing concerns about conduct in lower-league matches and youth sports in the UK.
