British long jumper Jazmin Sawyers will miss the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics following a serious Achilles tendon injury, a significant setback for Team GB’s athletics squad.
British long jumper Jazmin Sawyers will not participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. Despite a successful surgery on her take-off leg, the 29-year-old expressed her disappointment on social media. Sawyers, a prominent athlete who won her first major long jump title at the 2023 European Indoor Championships, aims to concentrate on her recovery and future competitions following this setback.
Sawyers, who previously competed in the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, did not qualify for the long jump final at last year’s World Athletics Championships, impacting her prospects for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Her athletic achievements include a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2016 European Championships, along with a bronze medal at the European Championships six years later.
The Paris Olympic Games are scheduled to run from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Sawyers’ absence is a blow to Team GB’s prospects in the athletics category.
