A large fire broke out at an Evri warehouse in Avonmouth, Bristol, on April 16, 2024, causing significant disruption and prompting the deployment of 16 firefighting appliances by Avon Fire & Rescue Service. The incident occurred at the Access 18 industrial estate, sending dense smoke over the area and affecting visibility on the nearby M5 motorway.

Authorities advised local residents to keep their windows and doors closed due to smoke, which was visible from up to three miles away. Road traffic was heavily affected, particularly on the A403 St Andrew’s Road due to the smoke.

All Evri staff were confirmed to be safe, and the company reported that most parcels had already been dispatched from the depot prior to the outbreak of the fire. A vehicle also caught fire within the chaos at the distribution centre.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, as emergency services continue efforts to control the blaze. The South Western Ambulance Service has also deployed a hazardous area response team to the site. Residents are encouraged to avoid the area and adhere to safety guidance from the authorities.
