Joanne Sharkey, 54, has been charged in connection with the murder of a baby whose remains were found in 1998 near Gulliver’s World theme park, reigniting a decades-old case.
Joanne Sharkey, a 54-year-old woman from Liverpool, has been charged with the murder of a baby whose remains were found near Gulliver’s World theme park in Warrington in 1998. The baby, referred to as ‘Callum’, was discovered in a woodland area in the Callands district of the town, leading to his naming. The case has remained a point of significant interest over the past 26 years.
The investigation by Cheshire Police’s Major Crime Review Team recently progressed with this charge against Sharkey, who is expected to appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court. Authorities have highlighted the importance of not prejudging the case or sharing speculative information online, emphasising the need for integrity in the legal process.
Previously, a man was arrested in July 2023 in relation to this case, but was later released without charges. This development reflects ongoing efforts to resolve the case, which included a funeral for Baby Callum held at Warrington Cemetery, with a headstone funded by local community donations.
