A mass demonstration is scheduled to take place in London this Saturday, organised by Defend Our Juries, to protest against the UK government’s decision to ban the group Palestine Action. While the exact location of the protest has not been disclosed, organisers have expressed confidence in attracting at least 500 participants. The demonstration is intended as a show of opposition to the proscription of Palestine Action, which came into effect on 5 July 2025.

The Metropolitan Police have issued a clear warning that anyone showing support for Palestine Action during the planned protest can expect to face arrest. Authorities have confirmed they will deploy the necessary resources and processes to manage the event and enforce the ban. This follows a series of recent protests across the UK where police action has resulted in numerous detentions.

On 23 June 2025, hundreds of supporters of Palestine Action gathered in Trafalgar Square to protest the Home Secretary’s announcement of the group’s proscription as a terrorist organisation. Initially peaceful, the protest escalated as police intervened to address suspicious behaviour, resulting in 13 arrests. Among those detained were six individuals charged with assaulting an emergency worker, and one facing a racially aggravated public order offence. The demonstration was forcibly ended when protestors refused to disperse after an imposed 3pm cut-off.

Further protests on 12 July 2025 across England and Wales, including London, Manchester, and Cardiff, led to over 70 arrests in total. The Metropolitan Police alone made 42 arrests in London during a rally in Parliament Square, where participants held signs condemning genocide and supporting Palestine Action. The protests formed part of a coordinated challenge against the government’s anti-terrorism legislation, which criminalises membership in and support for Palestine Action, carrying potential sentences of up to 14 years in prison.

Defend Our Juries’ decision to hold this upcoming protest comes amid ongoing tension between activists and law enforcement, reflecting the deep divisions over the government’s hardline stance against Palestine Action. Police remain resolute in their commitment to uphold the ban and prevent any public shows of support for the group. With the demonstration imminent, authorities and activists alike are bracing for a confrontation that underscores the continuing controversy surrounding counter-terrorism measures and freedom of protest in the UK.
