A social media account that tracked the attendance of television presenter Lorraine Kelly on her ITV show has been discontinued following her comments about the account being “hurtful.” The account, known as LorraineKWatch, had accumulated a following of over 25,000 users and provided daily updates regarding Kelly’s appearances on her show, Lorraine.

The account featured light-hearted commentary, asking “Where is Lorraine?” and included stats indicating the percentage of shows she had presented, which was reported to be 68.1 per cent at the time of its closure. When Kelly did host the show, the account would post congratulatory messages, while also highlighting her multiple appearances on other broadcasts, such as BBC Radio.

Kelly addressed the account publicly for the first time, expressing her discomfort over it. In an interview with The Guardian, she stated, “It’s really hurtful actually. It really is. I’ve not spoken about it before. I’m a grafter and I work really hard and I’ve had to take Fridays off for the past year. I just thought it was weird to care so much.” She further explained that her decision to work four days a week was initially because of her mother’s illness and that she hoped to pursue other interests, such as writing, as she nears the later stages of her career. “Mate, I’ve been doing this for 40 years, working my a**e off,” Kelly added.

Following her comments, the LorraineKWatch account uploaded a statement on social media, which has since reached over 2.5 million views. The post stated, “I have always said that if Lorraine or her team reached out and asked me to stop this account then I would.” The account operator acknowledged that while they had not had direct contact with Kelly, her recent statements indicated that the joke had become obsolete and it was time to discontinue the account. They also issued an apology, saying, “There was never any intention of hurting Lorraine’s feelings and I am sorry if I have done so. Goodbye my Lorrainvirstines.”

Fans of the account expressed their disappointment over its closure in various comments, with some referring to it as “always more fun than malicious.” Others shared a meme featuring Towie star Gemma Collins, suggesting a light-hearted take on the controversy. The shutdown of the account reflects the broader implications of social media interactions and their personal impact on public figures.
