A man died in a car crash on the M62 motorway in Yorkshire after he drove the wrong way, resulting in a head-on collision. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday near Scammonden Bridge when a Vauxhall Corsa, moving in the wrong direction on the eastbound carriageway, collided with a VW Golf. The crash resulted in the death of the Corsa driver at the scene, while the Golf driver was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

The event led to the closure of both westbound and eastbound lanes of the M62 between Junctions 22 and 24, causing significant travel disruption. The motorway was fully reopened later in the day. The closure had a notable impact on weekend travel plans, including affecting rugby fans who were travelling to a match between Hull and Huddersfield Giants, with advisories issued to allow extra travel time and to seek alternative routes.

West Yorkshire Police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the crash and have issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to come forward to assist with inquiries. The police aim to understand the sequence of events leading up to the collision and have asked those with any information to contact them by dialing 101.
