A man arrested in connection with the death of George Gilbey, a star known for his appearances on the TV show Gogglebox, has been released under investigation by Essex Police. The incident took place in Shoeburyness, resulting in the death of 40-year-old Gilbey after a reported fall from a height while he was working. The individual detained, a man in his 40s from Witham, was arrested on suspicions of gross negligence manslaughter but has since been released pending further investigation. Gilbey was a self-employed electrician running his own business in Clacton-on-Sea. He gained fame through his participation in Gogglebox and later on Celebrity Big Brother. His death has led to an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans, and celebrities alike, with Channel 4 offering condolences to his bereaved family. His stepfather, another familiar face from Gogglebox, died in 2021.

The event occurred at EGL Homecare, a manufacturing business, which is now part of the ongoing investigation led by Essex Police alongside the HSE. A single bouquet of flowers was placed at the site in memory of Gilbey. The investigation is ongoing, with further details expected to be released as it progresses.
