Heather Pressdee, a 41-year-old nurse, has been given three life sentences plus up to 760 additional years for the murder and attempted murder of patients across several health facilities in Pennsylvania.
Heather Pressdee, a 41-year-old nurse, has been sentenced to three consecutive life terms plus an additional 380 to 760 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of murder and attempted murder. The sentencing took place in a Butler, Pennsylvania court, following Pressdee’s arrest in May 2023. The charges relate to her administering lethal or potentially lethal doses of insulin to at least 17 patients across various health facilities in four counties between 2020 and 2023.
Pressdee’s colleagues had earlier raised concerns about her behavior, noting her disdain for patients and derogatory comments. Investigations revealed that she administered excessive doses of insulin during overnight shifts, exploiting periods of low staffing to potentially avoid immediate detection. Her actions affected both diabetic and non-diabetic patients.
Prior to her arrest, issues relating to Pressdee’s professional conduct had been ongoing since 2018, with instances of abusive behavior towards patients and staff leading to her resignation or termination from multiple healthcare facilities. Her nursing license was suspended following the charges.
This case has drawn attention to the severity and impact of criminal actions within the healthcare sector, adding to a series of incidents involving healthcare workers convicted of harming or killing patients.
