The violent incidents on the evening of the festivities were preceded by reports of organized fights on the beach, contributing to an increasingly chaotic atmosphere.

The series of shootings began when two individuals exchanged gunfire, inadvertently striking a bystander. The second incident involved a man discharging a firearm near a bar. The last and fatal shooting resulted in the death of a 21-year-old male, with three suspects implicated in this act of violence. As of now, authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the shootings.

Jacksonville Beach Police Chief Gene Paul Smith and Mayor Christine Hoffman have both addressed the situation, with the latter expressing the community’s sorrow over the events and commending the rapid response of law enforcement and local businesses.
