A 16-year-old boy faces a new felony charge related to a mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration, which resulted in one fatality and nearly two dozen injuries. Initially charged with resisting arrest, the teenager is now also facing a charge of unlawful use of a weapon in shooting at a person. Authorities are deliberating on whether to try him as an adult, with a scheduled hearing in Jackson County Family Court. Another 16-year-old is held on a related gun charge, and two men, Lyndell Mays and Dominic Miller, have been charged with second-degree murder among other counts. A third man from Kansas City, Missouri, has also been charged with second-degree murder, increasing the count of individuals facing serious charges in relation to the incident.

The shooting occurred during celebrations of the Chiefs’ second consecutive Super Bowl win, drawing an estimated crowd of 1 million. A confrontation between two groups reportedly sparked the violence, leading to the tragic outcome. Surveillance footage captured various individuals, including the newly charged suspect, brandishing and discharging weapons. Federal charges have been brought against three additional men for the illegal acquisition of firearms, including high-powered rifles and guns with extended magazines used during the event.

Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Jean Peters Baker stated that all parties involved in the shooting have been apprehended, with further charges expected. The community mourns the loss of a mother and the injuries sustained by others, as efforts for justice and closure continue.
