Kaylee Gain, a 16-year-old from Missouri, was severely injured in an assault outside her high school which led to the removal of part of her skull to relieve brain pressure. Following the incident, she now wears a protective custom helmet and is slated for further surgery to reattach the removed skull fragment. The assault has necessitated ongoing physical and speech therapy for Kaylee due to her suffering from short-term memory loss.
The assailant, 15-year-old Maurnice DeClue, is currently subject to legal proceedings to ascertain if he will be tried as an adult.
