On the morning of April 30, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Hainault, East London, when 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin was fatally attacked with a samurai sword while walking to school. Marcus Arduini Monzo, aged 36, is accused of the attack which severely injured Daniel, resulting in his death from sharp force trauma to the head and neck. Following the initial attack, Monzo allegedly continued his assault, targeting four additional victims, including two police officers, within a 20-minute period.

Monzo was subsequently arrested and charged with murder and a series of other offenses, including attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article. He appeared at the Old Bailey, where he was remanded in custody. A provisional trial date has been scheduled for February 3, with a preceding plea hearing on July 23.
