Constance Marten and Mark Gordon face serious charges including gross negligence manslaughter, as the jury deliberates on the tragic case of their daughter’s death.
The trial of Constance Marten and Mark Gordon is ongoing at the Old Bailey, concerning the charges related to the death of their infant daughter, Victoria. The couple, who have no fixed address, face numerous accusations, including gross negligence manslaughter, perverting the course of justice, child cruelty, and concealing the birth of a child. Victoria’s body was found in a decomposed state in a Lidl carrier bag within an unused shed in Brighton.
The prosecution alleges that the baby died of hypothermia due to inadequate clothing after the couple evaded authorities following their car catching fire in Greater Manchester. The defense claims that Victoria’s death was a tragic accident, not resulting from criminal actions on the part of Marten and Gordon.
Both Marten and Gordon deny all charges. The jury, reduced to 11 members, has started deliberations to reach verdicts, having been adjourned with instructions to resume on the following Wednesday morning.
