Northern villages near Sumy, Ukraine, have experienced significant bombardments by Russian forces, leading to forced evacuations and substantial destruction. President Volodymyr Zelensky has condemned these attacks, which have left residents, including the elderly, with little more than the clothes on their backs. The conflict has drastically affected local populations, causing widespread fear, displacement, and a call for increased support for Ukrainian soldiers.

Amid the escalating tensions, Ukraine faced a critical attack on its largest dam and energy infrastructure, with President Zelensky reporting the use of nearly 90 missiles and 60 drones targeting power plants, energy supply lines, a hydroelectric dam, and residential areas. Despite the substantial damage, officials assured there was no risk of breach at the DniproHES dam in Zaporizhzhia. Emergency services and energy workers are addressing the aftermath, described by Energy Minister Halushchenko as a significant attempt to disrupt Ukraine’s energy system.

The assaults have also affected the Khmelnytskyi region, causing casualties and injuries, and led to malfunctioning traffic lights in Kharkiv due to power facility strikes. DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, has warned of potential power outages in the south-eastern region of Dnipropetrovsk. These attacks are part of a broader strategy by Russia to target Ukraine’s infrastructure, aiming to weaken the Ukrainian resistance.
