A 12-year-old boy and his mother were rescued by the US Air Force from the Carnival Venezia cruise ship, after the boy suffered a severe medical emergency, believed to be a bowel perforation. The ship was 400 miles from the US mainland when the incident occurred. The 920th Rescue Wing was deployed promptly, utilizing two HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters and two HC-130J Combat King II aircraft to carry out the rescue.

The operation involved airlifting the patients from the ship’s deck, with Angela Bridges and her son Aiden being transferred to a medical centre in North Carolina for immediate treatment. The rescue was part of an eight-hour mission, covering over 1,200 miles and was notably executed six hours sooner than any other response team could manage. The skill and rapid response of the US Air Force were crucial to the successful evacuation and treatment of the young boy.
