Prince Harry’s efforts to expand his charity, Sentebale, into the United States have been hindered following a decision by the US Patent and Trademark Office to reject its trademark application. Sentebale, which Prince Harry co-founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006, aims to support vulnerable children and adolescents in Lesotho and Botswana, especially those impacted by HIV/AIDS. The trademark application was declined due to being described as inadequately defined and vague, specifically concerning services like mental healthcare and immunisations.

This development has stalled the charity’s plans to operate in the US. This setback coincides with a reported decline in donations from the American Friends of Sentebale Foundation, as indicated by filings with the UK Charity Commission. Meanwhile, Prince Harry is in the UK to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, an event he founded. Despite being in the country, there will be no meeting between him and his father, King Charles. Prince Harry is scheduled to travel to Nigeria with his wife, Meghan, later in the week.
