A 34-year-old woman was discovered living inside a grocery store sign on the rooftop in Midland, Michigan, a revelation that became known on April 23rd. The woman, who was found by contractors, had been residing in a 5ft by 8ft space within the Family Fare grocery store sign for about a year. Her makeshift home was notably equipped with amenities such as a computer, printer, mini desk, and a Keurig coffee machine. She had also arranged for electricity via a power cord plugged into a rooftop outlet.
The Midland Police officer Brennon Warren described the situation as astonishing and perplexing. It remains unclear how the woman had been accessing her rooftop abode, although it is presumed she might have climbed up from the rear of the store or other nearby structures.
Upon discovery, the woman cooperated with law enforcement and voluntarily left the premises. She faced no charges and was provided with information on local services to assist her.
SpartanNash, the owner of the grocery store, expressed compassion about the incident, highlighting the broader issue of inadequate safe and affordable housing.
