A 21-year-old woman experienced anaphylactic shock after consuming coffee from a vending machine contaminated with insects at Son Sant Joan airport in Majorca. The incident, which occurred recently, led to her hospitalisation at a facility in Palma, where she was placed in intensive care for 36 hours before being discharged.

The coffee was purchased from a vending machine at the airport. After detecting an unusual taste and discovering insects in her drink, the woman suffered swelling and breathing difficulties. Airport staff provided an immediate adrenaline shot, and she was subsequently moved to the hospital.

Following the incident, the affected vending machine was shut down, and an investigation was launched to evaluate the maintenance of the vending machines at the airport.
