A five-year-old girl, referred to as Jessica by Mountbatten Primary School, tragically died in Hull after being struck by a lorry while riding her bike. The accident took place on Hopewell Road in the Bilton Grange area and despite immediate efforts by emergency services, Jessica succumbed to her injuries at the site of the collision.

The incident has profoundly impacted the community, leading to an outpouring of grief and mourning. Mountbatten Primary School described Jessica as “wonderfully unique, curious, funny and so very kind,” highlighting the loss felt by all who knew her.

In response to the tragedy, Humberside Police have initiated an investigation and are appealing to the public for any dashcam or CCTV footage that may assist in their inquiries. The police have also been providing support to Jessica’s family during this incredibly challenging time.

As a mark of respect, Oakfield School closed briefly, with local community members leaving tributes like flowers and teddy bears near the scene of the accident. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety, particularly in areas frequented by children.
