PC Dean Dempster has been dismissed from Greater Manchester Police and prohibited from any future roles in policing after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a child while on duty.
PC Dean Dempster, a 35-year-old police officer, was dismissed from Greater Manchester Police after admitting to sexually assaulting a child while on duty in Oldham, near Manchester. The incident occurred on December 29, 2023, and following a complaint, Dempster was arrested on December 30. He later pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court in February 2024.
Following his guilty plea, an accelerated misconduct hearing led to his immediate dismissal from the police force and prohibition from any future policing roles, as he was added to the College of Policing Barred List. Mr. Watson, presiding over the case, and Detective Chief Superintendent Mike Allen emphasised the betrayal of the trust placed in Dempster due to his actions. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) also denounced the actions as unacceptable.
Dempster is currently awaiting sentencing, scheduled for June 2024. In addition to his conviction, there are ongoing proceedings to revoke his police pension in recognition of the gravity of the offence.
