On the morning of Wednesday, just after 11:20 am, a 13-year-old girl reportedly stabbed two teachers and a pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, a bilingual comprehensive school in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, Wales. The victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and were subsequently discharged from the hospital.

The teenage girl has been arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder and possessing a bladed article on school premises. Additionally, a 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the incident after he was found with a BB gun at his home in Cross Hands. Police are investigating a potential link between his case and the stabbings, as well as examining social media messages he reportedly shared about the stabbing.

The school underwent a lockdown that lasted several hours which was lifted the same day. In response to the incident, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Welsh First Minister Vaughan Gething both expressed their shock and commended the resilience and composure of the staff and students at the school. Authorities, including Superintendent Ross Evans, have urged the public to refrain from speculating and sharing any sensitive information related to the incident online.

Investigations are ongoing, led by Dyfed-Powys Police and supported by local authorities who have promised resources to support the impacted school community. The area’s educational body has transitioned to online lessons for the immediate future as steps are taken towards the school’s re-opening.
