Five individuals lost their lives in a tragic collision involving a school bus and a semitruck in Rushville, western Illinois. Among the deceased were three children and both vehicle drivers. The incident took place when the school bus, operated by Schuyler-Industry Schools, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a semitruck transporting sand. The collision caused both vehicles to catch fire, resulting in the deaths of those on board.
The children were identified as Maria Miller, 5, Andrew Miller, and Noah Driscoll, both aged 3. The drivers were named as Angela Spiker, 57, the school bus driver, and David Coufal, 72, the semitruck driver. All victims were from Illinois.
This tragic event has deeply impacted the Rushville community, leading to the local school district canceling classes in mourning. The National Transportation Safety Board, alongside state police, is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. Autopsies are also planned for the victims in Springfield.
